HOW BERBER TOURS WAS BORN

The idea for Berber Tours formed when I first traveled to Morocco in 2001 and, to this day, I continue to be amazed by what there is still to discover about the deeply traditional Moroccan Berber culture. Since my first independent tour and the founding or our little "family company" in 2002, I remain moved by the hospitality shown to me and, since that first visit, my fascination with the culture and traditions of Morocco's nomadic people has remained with me.

about Berber ToursThe reason why our company was named "Berber Tours" was because of my personal appreciation with the "south of Morocco" which include the dramatic and contrasting landscapes from the High Atlas to the Sahara; camel trekking in the Sahara dunes of the Erg Chigaga; the immense "sea" of sand and sleeping in a nomad tent under the stars; baking "sand bread;" wandering through Berber village souks and visiting the nomadic people in the High Atlas or the Sahara. It has been a privilege to spend time with a family of Ait Atta Berbers, in Erg Chigaga, to experience their traditional culture and lifestyle.

Working with my partner, Daoud Bouhaddou, has also been a privilege because I have yet to meet a more honest, honorable, trustworthy, and genuinely generous person than he. Daoud's "word" is his "bond," which is something that is extremely rare in today's world.

I have no hesitation in recommending Morocco as a holiday destination suitable for everyone, including families, and look forward to sharing, with you, some of the highlights of a country that I have come to love and a people whose traditions I have grown to deeply respect.
